Former STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH Members Launch UNITED FORCES

Two of the four members of New York City hardcore/speed metal legends STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH have set out to forge a new path of punishment in 2013.

UNITED FORCES unites S.O.D.'s bassist Danny Lilker (BRUTAL TRUTH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, NUNFUCKRITUAL, LOCK UP, ex-ANTHRAX) and notorious frontman Billy Milano (METHOD OF DESTRUCTION), the longtime cohorts taking their mayhem to new turf. Milano and Lilker recruited two additional henchmen to help carry out their forthcoming disorder, with the thunderous Nick Barker (LOCK UP, ANCIENT, ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR) on percussive duties, and Anton Reisenegger (CRIMINAL, PENTAGRAM (Chile), EXTREME NOISE TERROR, LOCK UP) handling guitars.

With Lilker located in upstate New York, Milano in central Texas, Barker in England and Reisenegger in Spain, details on the outfit's plans concerning touring or recording remain unknown, but UNITED FORCES is, without question, a pending force with which to be dealt.

Notes Milano on the eclectic union of metal soldiers: "I'm not out to reinvent myself at my age. I just want to have a lot of fun with this. We called it UNITED FORCES because we're located all over the place, in different countries, but this is something we're going to come together for." Adds Lilker: "It's gonna be really fun to get together with some good friends - who are also great musicians - and play some earsplitting, hardcore-tinged thrash metal! And obviously, we know how to do just that."

At this year's installment of the Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin, Texas, modern thrash heavyweights MUNICIPAL WASTE were joined by Lilker and Milano onstage to help unleash the S.O.D. staple "United Forces". Check out the carnage below.

Future UNITED FORCES plans will be revealed in the coming weeks.

S.O.D. tunes played at Metal Masters 4

One month ago a packed house at New York's Gramercy witnessed Kerry King & Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Scott Ian, Frank Bello & Charlie Benante of Anthrax share the stage with Phil Anselmo, Gary Holt of Exodus and legendary bassist Billy Sheehan at the 'Metal Masters 4' clinic.

Metal Masters 4 - Friday, September 7, 2012, Gramercy Theatre, New York
The evening started out with a stellar opening performance by Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo's side project Philm. The clinic itself began with Anthrax’s Frank Bello inviting kids up onstage to play his signature bass. Bello then introduced the one and only Billy Sheehan, who performed some serious bass lines. After the clinic, the performance kicked off with Bello belting out the Anthrax tune 'Room For One More'.

Everyone took to the stage with Phil Anselmo who performed Pantera tunes such Mouth For War', 'Five Minutes Alone', 'A New Level' and 'Fucking Hostile'. They also performed a couple S.O.D. and Exodus tunes as well. Fan lost their minds and maintained a massive pit throughout the night as the super group performed Slayer classics 'Angel of Death' and 'Raining Blood', among others.

You can download mp3's of 'March Of The S.O.D./Sgt. D & the S.O.D.' and 'Kill Yourself' as performed by Phil Anselmo (vocals), Frank Bello (bass), Scott Ian (guitar) and Charlie Benante (drums) below.

DAN LILKER Biography Due This Summer

"Anyone who's enjoyed anything I've done over the last 30 years will also enjoy this book," Lilker says, "And endless thanks to Dave Hofer for having the inspiration and patience to pry all the memories out of my brain."

Paper + Plastick Records has announced the release of the biography of veteran heavy metal bassist Dan Lilker. Entitled "Perpetual Conversion: 30 Years & Counting In The Life Of Metal Veteran Dan Lilker", the book follows Lilker's career from his pre-ANTHRAX band WHITE HEAT in 1980, through BRUTAL TRUTH's latest 2011 release, "End Time". It traces Lilker's time spent in seminal metal bands NUCLEAR ASSAULT, BRUTAL TRUTH, ANTHRAX, STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH (S.O.D.) and HEMLOCK, and also includes his lesser-known projects THE RAVENOUS, CRAB SOCIETY, CRAB SOCIETY NORTH, EXIT-13, EXTRA HOT SAUCE, CRUCIFIST, NOKTURNAL HELLSTORM, NUNFUCKRITUAL, LAST SATANIC DANCE, OVERLORD EXTERMINATOR and more.

"Perpetual Conversion: 30 Years & Counting In The Life Of Metal Veteran Dan Lilker" was written by Dave Hofer, a Chicago-based music fan, record store employee and sporadic freelance writer.

Although not classically trained in long-form writing, Hofer spent years interviewing Lilker, his friends and his family to present what Hofer calls "the most comprehensive interview Lilker has ever done."

"After spending a decent amount of time with Danny, I decided that this book would function best mostly from his perspective, as his tone and sense of humor are right on point," Hofer says. "The transcriptions were providing too much good material to pick and choose pull quotes."

Featuring input from Scott Ian and Charlie Benante of ANTHRAX, John Connelly and Glenn Evans of NUCLEAR ASSAULT, Kevin Sharp and Rich Hoak from BRUTAL TRUTH, Barney Greenway and Shane Embury of NAPALM DEATH, Fenriz, Faust, Craig Setari, Gene Hoglan, Gloria Cavalera, Howie Abrams, Jim Welch and others, "Perpetual Conversion" will detail Lilker's life in an unparalleled way.

"Perpetual Conversion" will be accompanied by a multitude of unreleased pictures and other types of memorabilia that Lilker has had in storage for years. There is also a plan in the works to bring a very special music-related accompaniment to the project, but it is unconfirmed so far.

Download: M.O.D. in Germany, 1993

Here's a new download for you: a recording of a full M.O.D. show from 1993. With special thanks to former drummer Tony Scaglione, who had a copy of this show.

Live in Oberhausen, Germany
In 1993 M.O.D. did a European tour with Channel Zero and the Spudmonsters. In the band were at the time: Billy Milano (vocals), Rob Moschetti (bass), Tony Portaro (guitars) and Tony Scaglione (drums). (Both Tony's are also founding members of Whiplash).

Tony Scaglione had this recording of a live show that M.O.D. did in Oberhausen in Germany, August 24, 1993. For a recording that is almost 20 years old, it sounds pretty good. So I decided to upload this show to my website and create some artwork for it.

Parts of the artwork were created earlier, but have never been used before. You can download the entire show(17 tracks), including the artwork, here.

Enjoy!

Crab Society Demos: New 'DIE HARD Edition' available

Another limited box had just been released, for those who missed the first collecors' edition.

New DIE HARD EDITION (150 sets)
Not long ago FOAD records released 2 versions of the 'Crab Society Demo's' on vinyl: a 'regular' version and a 'die hard collectors edition'. The 'die hard edition' was limited to only 150 sets and has sold out in a matter of days. FOAD headquarters have been submerged by so many purchase requests that they released a new die hard edition: another 150 ultra-limited copies, this time with a slightly different content.

This new edition contains almost the same items as the first 'die hard edition':
- 'Crab Society demos' Picture LP in gatefold sleeve with 2 sided poster;
- An extra 10' transparent red vinyl, containing a 1985 rehearsal;
- Superthick collectors' boxset with full coloured print on both sides.

The main difference is the 10" color – transparent purple/red instead of highlighter yellow – and the sleeve: this time, it is wrapped into a baby toddler size t-shirt, printed front and back, and exclusively created for this release and to fit the shape of a 10" record.

If you've missed the limited boxset the first time, now is the time to try to get this one. Or, like in my case, get this version as well to keep your collection complete. For more info, click here.

You can order this edition here...

HAPPY 2012!

There's a new S.O.D. show available for downloading and I just added an interview with Dan Lilker.

Dan Lilker interview about Crab Society North
In December F.O.A.D. Records released the complete Crab Society Demo's from 1985 on vinyl. There's even a limited box-set available, which includes a 1985 S.O.D. rehearsal on 10" yellow vinyl. For more info on this see below or click here. F.O.A.D. records interviewed Dan Lilker, since he was involved in both the 'Crab Society' and the 'Crab Society North' projects. You can read the interview here.

S.O.D. live in 1997 (download)
Fifteen years ago , S.O.D. reunited for the first time since 1985 for a short tour. Yes, they did 3 shows in 1992, 1994 and 1996 as well, but never a whole tour. S.O.D. were asked to perform at the 'With Full Force' festival in Germany in 1997 (footage of this show can be found at the 'Speak English Or Live' DVD) and this festival was followed up by a short U.S. tour. One of these shows was at 'The Chance' in Poughkeepsie on August the 1st. I happen to have a soundboard recording of this show, so I decided that I would use this show for my first download of 2012, with some artwork that I created for it! I hope you enjoy listening to this 1997 S.O.D. show! You can download this recording here..

Have a great New Year!
